DIY Ironing Board Holder

I feel like our ironing board has never had a true home.  Growing up it always slid in next to the washer or dryer – same as I moved out on my own.  In our last house our laundry space was in the garage and Matt lovingly screwed in two screws so it could at least hang on the wall between the washing machine.  While it did solve the issue we had of it always falling, it wasn’t the prettiest.  As Matt says though it was “functional over fashionable”.  Insert eye roll – ha!  And then of course moving to our current home it just kind of floated between the two walls and behind the laundry room door.  While I am extremely grateful to have an indoor laundry room now, it’s not a huge space so the floating ironing board needed a space to land so that it was no longer in the way while we were in there.  Insert the DIY Ironing Board Holder!!

Materiels Needed:

1 1×4 board
2 metal wall hooks
Minwax Dark Walnut Stain
Sawtooth Hangers

We started by cutting the board down to 18″.  If you do not have the tools for cutting the board, Home Depot will do it for you for no additional charge!  Once you have the board cut, apply the stain per the instructions on the can.  We did only one coat of stain as we didn’t want the board to be too dark.

Once the stain is dry, attach the sawtooth hangers to the back about 3″ in from the outer edge of the board.  Next, you will measure out where the hooks will be attached.  The center of the hook to the outer edge of the board is 4″.  Mark your places and use the same screws that came with the hooks to attach them to the board.  Once the hangers and hooks are all attached you are ready to hang your ironing board hanger on the wall.  Then, sit back and enjoy your cute and clutter free laundry space!

Note: Be sure to use drywall anchors or install on the studs to ensure the holder stays attached to the wall when in use and while taking the ironing board on and off.
